Audition for Movies

Auditions for MoviesIf you are dreaming of being a big star, appearing in blockbuster movies, attending auditions with A-list actors, and throwing back tropical drinks at Trader Vic's after a hard day of shooting, well, join the club. There are probably about a cool million of you in Los Angeles alone, give or take a couple thousand. How then, can you set yourself apart from others when going on auditions for movies? What makes the difference between acing auditions and going home forlorn and looking for movies to rent at the local video store?

Some people follow a formula when they go on auditions for movies. They psyche themselves up by picturing playing the role already in their heads. They practice what they're going to say to the casting director, and some even have a story/anecdote they tell about themselves to break the ice.

For movies, auditions can be much more nerve-wracking than other mediums because you may have to act for a famous director, possibly in front of a camera, and people who work in the film industry can be quite terse and cool to those who have not already "made it". The combination all of these things can throw a lot of people off. You have to use the skills you have (hopefully) learned in acting class to pull you through. Why not try acting like you are already a big movie star when you go on auditions for movies? Eat some Sushi or drink a cappuccino beforehand and tell yourself, "if I don't get the part, I'll still be the toast of the town, hah!" It may seem silly, but you must prepare yourself mentally - it's one of the main foundations of acting.
